Welcome!

The SFU Satellite Design Team was founded in early January 2016 to provide students and the public an avenue to pursue and develop their interest and passion for the exploration of space. The team is currently working towards two projects each with social and scientific value to Canada and the global community.

Our largest project is the Canadian CubeSat Project where we are working alongside the Canadian Space Agency and two other major BC Universities for a confirmed launch of our craft in 2021. Secondly, We are also participating in Canadian Satellite Design Challenge to design and build CubeSats for Canadian Astronomers and amateur radio community and compete against other teams nationwide.

More than a design team

Over the years, SFU Satellite Design Team has developed relations with a multitude of companies in the aerospace industry. These relationships range from technical advisors, sponsorships or community engagement. With your support, we can inspire future generations of space explorers, engineers, and business leaders through technology development and educational outreach.

Get involved!

If you're interested in becoming part of the team, the easiest way to get involved is to join our slack channel and attend a sub-team meeting. Meetings are held on a weekly basis, with bi-weekly general meetings on Saturdays at the Surrey campus.

Regardless of your technical experience, the SFU Satellite Design Team is always looking to get new members involved. If you are first year and afraid you don't know enough about what's going on, we strongly encourage you to come out anyways; a lot of this is not taught directly in classes but is self-taught and self-made. The more you get involved, the easier it gets.

Sub-Teams: Technical

The overall design team is broken up into 5 main technical teams: ADCS, Computing, Power, RF and Structural. To find out more, visit each sub-teams individual page with a brief overview of what they do and how to get involved.

Sub-Teams: Non-Technical

If you're interested in space but you aren't in an engineering field, you can still get involved by being part of our non-technical teams, such as Admin, Finance and Branding & Marketing.
